I have done a quick search of homes in the Chapel Hill area and there are very few detached homea available in the area that meet your requirements. If you are open to townhomes and condos, then your options go up dramatically. You may consider the Morrisville area, which is just a stone's throw from Chapel Hill and they have many great, newer homes in the price range that you are desiring.
Additionally, is there a specific reason why you are planning on buying a home in six months? I ask because now is the best time to buy a home. In six months, the market in the Triangle may have recovered and then the sellers will not be as willing to negotiate. The NAR has predicted that the real estate market will recover by the end of 2008. Either way, we are currently in a buyer's market and there is no guarantee that it will continue to b a buyer's market.
If you would like to look at a few homes or speak with one of my lenders, please call or email me and I can arrange it.

I do not sell and am not licensed to sell in Atlanta, but I would be more than happy to search and interview some agents in the area for you. I would first, research a number of them for you, then call my top choices to interview them and find out how many homes they have sold and attempt to determine their level of competence in the business. As I have told my clients for years, not all agents are created equal (in their ability to help you in a professional manner). Please call or email me and I will be happy to assist you.
