About Me
I have been in Real Estate for over two years now, and have definitely experienced the roller coaster ride of the market! It hasn't been easy, but I've learned a lot.

When will the effects of NASB closing be felt in Brunswick?

Leah Twitchell answered:
To answer your question more specifically and directly, the base has already begun to transfer employees and many residents of Brunswick and Topsham have already put their homes on the market. So we are already seeing the impact as of right now. It is impossible to predict exactly how much further prices are going to fall, and it may take a couple more years to see the full effect, but if you wait for the base to actually close, in my opinion you will already be too late. Also, I don't believe Freeport area will be affected that much by the base closure. If you decide to buy in Freeport, now is definitely a good time. It looks like prices have started to somewhat stablilize since the crash, they may go down a bit further, but so might interest rates go up. It is difficult the time the market exactly right, but at least at this point you know it's low and a good time to buy. - Fri Aug 22 2008, 09:23

Question removed

Leah Twitchell answered:
Unfortunately, sometimes these homes are not easy to finance and require a cash buyer or construction loan. There are a lot of homes on the market right now that have been damaged and/or abandoned and are not easy to buy, which is part of the reason the market is so backed up, too much inventory which cannot be financed without a good chunk of down payment! I would certainly make sure you have talked with a lender who specializes or has experience with 203K. - Mon Aug 18 2008, 18:43
Leah Twitchell answered:
Portland is great if you want a smaller type of city. There are great places to eat and we often get fairly popular artists in concert and stuff like that. But if you like the grit of a larger city, or the culture and diversity of a larger city, Portland can be somewhat bland and white-washed. I love Maine because I'm from Maine, but I have lived in Montreal and Europe and sometimes still long for the larger metropolitan areas. It is great as a safe and interesting place to hang out and call home. Of course I love it because I live here and I know a lot of people who have moved from out of state find it so refreshing and quaint! - Mon Aug 18 2008, 18:31
