Born and raised in the United Kingdom, I have been living and working in South Florida for the past 19 years. I have been in Real Estate for the past 13 years, before which I was a Commercial Pilot. I have two kids, a cat and a big yellow dog and we all love living by the beach in Ft Lauderdale.

Look for the designation ABR. This is an Accredited Buyer Representative, however please be aware that all agents are considered to be Transaction Brokers in Florida, unless specifically noted in writing otherwise. Transaction Brokers are supposed to work on behalf of the "deal". Be aware also that if you have a single agency agreement with a particular agent and they want to show you any listing from their company that you then decide to purchase, they would have to transition back to a transaction broker.... confusing I know! If you want any help looking for a buyers agent, let me know and I will help find you one in Naples. - Thu Aug 28 2008, 05:06
Do you care where they are or do you want somebody in your area? - Mon Aug 25 2008, 19:17

Things to think about:
FIRPTA - tax for foreign Investors; doesn't affect purchase, but if he sells, he could be subject to tax whithholding.
Do you intend to live in the property or does he want to rent it out to others?
If you live there, he may want to consider putting the property in a trust, thereby helping you and your family for the future and somewhat heading off inheritance taxes.
If he intends to rent it, you have to consider who is going to manage this - absentee landlords etc.
Talk to your or your Dad's accountant as a good starting point and good luck. - Sat Aug 23 2008, 18:02
You didn't say where you are moving to, but do a web search for corporate rentals. There are several companies offering this kind of service and it will give you the opportunity to look at various options for short term furnished accomodation around the country while you look to purchase. - Sat Aug 23 2008, 17:29
