Hi Rachel. I have a 5 year old in Kindergarten and while he attended pre-school in Virginia Beach, I have heard that Great Bridge Manor School is very good (it is part of the Manor School system). Also, Virginia Beach School of the Arts offers a pre-school program. Their site is:

This area also underwent a sort of revitalization over the past few years as the City made significant improvements, many rental units were converted to ownership and the desirability of the Beach Borough increased. I agree....$160K for a townhome close to the Virginia Beach oceanfront is not cause for alarm. - Sat Aug 23 2008, 18:27
Tina In Virginia, Hampton Roads Realtor Serving Virginia Beach, Chesapeake answered:
Kellie - of course it's ok to ask! Just be careful...remember, the seller doesn't care about this house as much as you do. You want to be sure a reputable, licensed professional does the work, not "Uncle Bob". You want the work done with a warranty in case you run into problems down the road. Ask to select the plumber or at least be able to approve who does the repairs. Ask for a copy of their license and be sure to check on their reputation with the state licensing board as well as the Better Business Bureau. Lastly, you may want to call the city and see if any city permits will be required for this work and then make sure the proper permits are had so this doesn't come back to haunt you when you go to sell the house someday.

That depends on whether or not the lender issues you a 1099-C. Also, depending on the state law, you may be liable for state and federal income taxes or just federal. Please consult your tax advisor. - Sat Aug 16 2008, 15:42
