There was a great story in this Sunday's Time Free Press on community involvement and the restoration of Normal Park in North Chattanooga. Schools are always a reflection of parent/community participation.

Best community to live near Chattanooga, TN

Sounds like there is no need to speak 'bout Chattanooga, since you are on the way... great little city with more than enough to keep busy.

North Chattanooga offers a nice mix of retail, restaurants and amenities. Signal Mountain is very close to town as well and offers shopping though dining is a bit more limited but Signal has the best sense of community. Several areas are close to downtown and in fact the general rule of thumb is, "you can get anywhere, from anywhere in 20 minutes". Very easy town to navigate.
