How does home buying work in Morristown when a couple is engaged? How are you financially qualified, etc.?

Hi Tara,

I agree with Jeanne. I know people who have purchased before getting married. The strength of your buying power will come from one or both incomes. Whether you decide to put everything in one name or the other and can support the mortgage, I don't think it's an issue. Once married, you can make changes but the state of NJ recognizes everything fifty-fifty. I would suggest you have everything in both names for better financial strength and security. It's like with everything in life. You get what you pay for. You may want to ask yourself, "Where has Foxton's gone?" If an agent leaves you with doubt and questions, interview another agent. If the agent has done their job, commission will not be an issue. Ask an agent to explain the commission and how it's split as well. You are probably selling your most expensive possession.
