You should make yourself a list Sell versus Rent. good points versus bad. No one can really predict what
may happen in 10 yrs. Selling prices are down somewhat now, but Alameda still commands a good sales price for good property. The money gained from the sale could be invested in a safe harbor for whatever. Rental property can be a good investment, but does require that excellent references must be obtained and sometimes that doesn't even guaranty that you will get a good renter, You will need to probably have someone take care of your property and that can also subtract from the rental income. A list of the pluses and minuses will possibly assist you in making the right decision. Good luck in whatever you do decide. - Wed Jul 30 2008, 19:04

Working for a buyer is time consuming for a realtor. In attempting to find what the buyers want requires a great deal of computer research and a good realtor will look at properties for a particular buyer then inform the potential buyer and arrange for a viewing of the property. By limiting the buyers commission means that most realtors will bypass your property. The listing agent is limiting his owners availablity of selling his property. - Sun Jul 20 2008, 11:22

your will get resources that can help you sell your property that may be difficult for you as a seller to access, if you are a buyer you will get the sevices of a realtor that is on top of the situation in the area you are looking for. A lot of sellers and buyers try it on there own and this is fine if they get results, but the corrent complexities in selling or buying property are better off left to someone such as a realtor/broker who knows the market and its requirements. - Thu Jul 17 2008, 18:27

I feel the most important thing you should do it to go to different neighborhoods that interest you and speak with home owners in that area, you want to find a home where you will be happy and has all the features that are very important to you such as schools if you have children, convenience to your place of work, safety for you and your family. after that all the answers will be amount of purchase you can afford and whether you quality for that price range. Good luck in your venture it is possibly the most important decision you will have to make. A realtor can help you when you are ready they can assist you in many ways. - Sat Mar 8 2008, 12:54
