I have been a realtor since 2001 after a career in the Financial Markets n Wall Street. This exposure helps me handle all the problems that may occur during your purchase or sale. My office is in Montclair and I live in North Haledon right on the Bergen/Passaic county border. So I am familiar with the markets in Essex, Bergen and Passaic counties.
I have the ABR designation which certifies my knowledge in assisting the home buyer and in 2004 was elected to the NJAR Circle of Excellence Bronze award.
I volunteer with the Home Care Options of New Jersey which is dedicated to assisting the homebound senior.

Taxes are probably higher in Fair Lawn and lots are in the main part smaller. Apart from that both have good school systems and good commuting but in Paramus you suffer from the mall traffic I always have a liking for Fairlawn as there are more affordable houses for the young buyer. - Tue Nov 11 2008, 11:14

If a selling agent shows you a property, unless you tell that agent before you see the property that you are working with another agent, then you are committed to that agent for that particular property. In New Jersey an agent is allowed to work with both the seller and the buyer.
However unless you sign a specific agreement with an agent then you are free to work with any or all agents that you choose but again, if you are shown a house by an agent then you must stick with that agent should you decide to buy it. - Wed Nov 5 2008, 09:11
Its real tough for anyone to find the home of their choice but there are some tips to make it easier. Firstly get a pre approval from a reputable mortgage person. This will identify the value of what you can afford. Secondly try to narrow your choice of town. Stick to those that fulfill your requirements for schools, commuting and general desirability. Thirdly pick a realtor to help you. As a buyer the realtors services are free. What we can do is filter the listings as they come on the market to eliminate those that do not meet your needs. I can, for example send you only those houses that have the 5 or 6 attributes you want. You obviously are comfortable with computers so those listings can be in you inbox each morning.
