Hi Paul,
Though the majority of the Boehringer property is in Ridgefield, it is accessed from Danbury, 1 mile from my home, and 2 miles from my brokerage office.
This will be a considerable shock for you coming from Chicago. Let's talk about everything that's important to you, and I can advise you on all the towns from the secluded spots of Danbury, to the loft condos over the night life of Washington St., SoNo, (South Norwalk), all of which I've done business in.
If the latter sounds like an intruiging place to live, you'll need to contend with the ongoing road construction on Rt.7, a widening from 2 to 4 lanes between Norwalk and Danbury. The Danbury to Ridgefield stretch is almost complete, but there's allot to be done in Wilton, between Ridgefield and Norwalk. The upside is that you'll be doing a "reverse commute", as the majority of commuters on that road live up here in the greater Danbury area, and work in the southern part of the county, or NY.
If you don't need the entertainment in your back yard, and want to hit Manhattan, (as I do) to party, and live in a quiter enviroment, you can't beat the Danbury area. When my wife and I go to a show on Broadway, or a band at the Beacon Theater, it's just over an hour by car. We're also 12 minutes from the Harlem River Metro North rail line which gets us into Grand Central terminal in under an hour when we catch the express. We're just off 84, which takes us straight up into New England; VT to ski and Mountain Bike, and Cape Cod to the beach. We're also 5 minutes from 684 which shoots us to the city in no time. Having just started a family, we like the schools, seclusion, yard for parties, and fresh air, and we take short trips to the city. It all depends on what's important to you.
Most important to many buyers is that generally, the farther you travel north, the MORE property you get for your money, and the lower your tax liability is. For this reason, west Danbury and Ridgefield are "bedroom communities" for people who work in Manhattan, Westchester, and southern Fairfield counties. There's also a great deal of "flavor" right here on the west side of Danbury, we go to see a few bands each summer at the "Ives Concert Park", on the WESCONN college campus 2 miles away.
Do you like to get to the outdoors to ski, snowboard, hike, climb, bike, scuba, perhaps? Do you have a family, is there one in your future, or are schools important? What do you like to do when you're not working? Drop me a line at your convenience, and we can discuss what's important to your lifestyle, and I'll help you understand evrything that's available to you, how to get to it, and relative housing costs for all the communities within commutable distsnce from Boehringer.
I've been here for 9 years, and before that my wife and I lived in Ridgefield. I've done real estate transcactions in Stamford and Norwalk, and the majority of my business is here in northern Fairfield County. My brokerage, William Raveis, is a member of all the major relocation networks, and I've done relo work, so your relo through the company would probably not be any problem.
I'd be happy to chat with you at your convenience!
Best Regards,
Bruce Lyon, GRI, ABR
