All of us, agents included, have been first time home buyers at one time or another. As we all know, it can be quite an overwhelming experience, especially for those not trained in real estate practices. Without a doubt you need to find someone who is going to cater to your needs. I would personally approach the process with the same attitude I would when hiring a professional in any job field. I would search out references and recommendations of past clients, have a meeting with the agent, and would also address any concerns that I have with them. The final ingredient to the puzzle is finding someone that you feel comfortable with. It is important to work with someone who will not only educate you and represent you every step of the way, but also someone that will put you at ease and allow you to express any questions or fears you have during the transaction. Property managers will check credit the same as a mortgage provider so a lot depends on the consistancy of your current payments. If you are renting now, and have been paying rent on time, it will be helpful to have evidence of those on-time payments available.
