I would be glad to help you in your search. I am a Wilkes County native and member of the Wilkes County Board of Realtors. I can help you in your search in Wilkes, Yadkin, and Surry counties. Outside of these areas I can refer you to a qualified realtor. Let me know if I can help you. - Fri May 23 2008, 08:55

Add Wilkes County to your list. Located in northwestern North Carolina, Wilkes county has rural appeal, great people, low crime and a diverse choise of properties. We have mountain peaks to flat rolling fields and pastures. And you can save a lot, I feel we can get you way under budget. W Kerr Scott Lake is our lake for boating. A beautiful mountain/foothills setting with the US government owning 80% of the land around the lake, you know this beauty will not be spoiled with over-development. Whith Hwy 421 cutting through the middle of the county, you will have 4-lanes of quick travel to Greensboro or Charlotte, about an hour and half to each. - Fri May 23 2008, 08:29

On average I have scene the differance to be about 80 - 85%. The main thing is the quality of the work and materials. What I have scene work best in basements in mountain homes are tile floors and paperless sheetrock walls (will not grow mold).

Wilkes county may be what you are looking for. Wilkesboro is a nice small town tucked at the foot of the mountains. Kerr Scott Lake is great for boating and fishing and since the US Army Corps of Engineers owns 80% of the land around the lake you know it will never become over developed - it will always have the feel of a beautiful mountain lake. Homes in town and out in the county will fall into the price range you are looking for. A few years back it was discovered the area is ideal for growing grapes, so during the spring there are quite a few wine festivals in the area if you like getting out on a nice sunny day, sampling a few wines, and meeting new people. This is my neck of the woods so feel free to ask me anything about Wilkes. - Mon May 19 2008, 07:14
