FYI...in most states it is ILLEGAL to pay an assistant a percentage of the deal unless they are licensed. In my experience, I have seen a lot of new agents work as assistants just to see the real side of the real estate business (a greater understanding than what they learned in their pre-licensing courses). My advice? Treat those assistants well! If they are fast learners, they will go on to succeed on their own..build them up as part of your team, or else they will become your biggest competition!! - Sun Feb 3 2008, 05:39
After living in Austin for almost 10 years, we relocated to the Washington DC metro area and kept our two properties in Austin. They were SO affordable to purchase and we've had great luck keeping them rented and cash flowing. While the property taxes are high, there is no state income tax in Texas. Check out the Perry Henderson team for property management (see link below). Their team has a lot of experience with out-of-state investors and can help steer you in the right direction. Best of luck to you! - Thu Oct 11 2007, 05:32
