There is not a standard (usual) fee for a buyers agent. Everything in the Real Estate transaction is negotiable. Do not assume that if you pay 5% to a buyers agent then he is helping you out as well (even if he/she draws up the contract or assists you with closing information). Everything should be in writing including rights and responsibilities for all parties. Refer to "Information About Brokerage Services" form. Make sure to ask whom he/she is representing in the transaction, no matter who pays. - Tue Apr 22 2008, 09:27

Let your agent's reputation and company speak for itself!! Interview a couple of agents, ask for references from recently satisfied clients. Ask friends or relatives to make recommendations.
