Yes it can happen.
You need to be careful, there are a lot of houses on the market but you need to select by 2 criteria; 1. the home you like can not be a bank owned or a short sale because they can take months to close and 2. it should be vacant because the homeowner should have moved on and not contingent on the homeowner finding home of choice. The 2 criteria could seriously reduce the available inventory. I can help, I have area and relocation experience.

The easy answer is yes. But the complete answer is you don't need to live in Manassas to have a 30 minute commute. Call me. I have area and relocation experience.

Mary, a short sale is when you owe more on your home than you can sell it for and you are unable to keep the home. Short sales are difficult because you can accept an offer but it must be contingent on the first and second trusts to approve the deal. This can take months to happen. A foreclose is the process where the bank takes your home under foreclosure processes and then lists the home on the market again as a bank sale where only the first trust needs to approve the deal.
Now the second issue, you carry the loan and your boyfriend is on the deed with you. I would ask a real estate attorney but I think a foreclosure will only impact you as the mortgage holder and not your boyfriend's credit score.
You may want to change the deed to your name only and rent a room to help pay the mortgage.
What I tell my clients is that this is happening all over and there are people out there that may help. If you are in the city of Manassas you should check with the city because there is a program to help people stay in there homes. Best of luck and I hope it all comes together for you.

Peter, One person responded that the market in a local issue and he/she is correct. If you are in the PWC area then I can say we have turned a corner. We had a 24 month inventory not to long ago and we are currently running at 6 to 7 months inventory. If priced right, the houses are selling. We had a listing in Dominion Valley that was priced right and we had our first offer in 10 hours and 4 more over the next 24 hours. The low end is selling, we are seeing houses less than $450,000 are moving much faster than above that. If you have any further questions call me.
