I worked in Chicago for 12 years and commuted on the South Shore from Valparaiso. You can either drive to Dune Park from Valparaiso which would take approximately 15-20 minutes depending on what side of Valparaiso you are coming from or drive to the Ogden Dunes station, which would take approximately 30 minutes. There is more parking at Dune Park. The train ride is approximately 1 hour. The city of Valparaiso will be unveiling their new bus station and bus service to Chicago later this year. - Wed Jun 4 2008, 14:32
When interviewing Realtors, ask them what experience they have with short sales. Have they successfully negotiated short sales in the past and/or taken continuing education with regard to short sales. Short sales can be tricky and you really need a Realtor who is knowledgeable in that area to represent you. - Wed Jun 4 2008, 09:08
Is it a good idea or a bad idea? That depends. Be sure to perform your due diligence with regard to the condition of the home as most foreclosures are being sold "as is". Also, ask your Realtor to provide you with a market analysis of the home if it were in good condition so that you can determine whether or not the neighborhood will support the value of the home once you have made the needed improvements and repairs. - Wed Jun 4 2008, 08:47
