Greg - Cory Lake, Tarpon Springs, and Apollo Beach are OUT based on what you described. Westshore Yacht Club is nice, has waterfront, and a good location. There were a lot of speculators that purchased in there so you can find some good deals on homes and condos. Downtown St.Pete has a lot to offer if your looking for an up and coming "hip" area with lots of new resturants, shopping, waterfront and outdoor activities. If you want something on a lake you need to head north to the Lutz/Land O Lakes area which is more of a suburban area about a 25 minute drive from most of the action in Tampa. I just saw a short sale on a lake front home in the mid $300's in a gated community. Hope this helps.
