Living in the North End of Tacoma, as I do, breeds a love for the diversity of the homes and the “flavor” of this area, not to mention, the architecture. I do admit that I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the old historic homes as I live in a”Work in a Progress” right in the heart of the North Slope of the Stadium District. I work many of the Pierce County areas and I have always had an interest in homes and architecture of ALL styles, but I have a special appreciation for the “Grand Ol’ Victorian,” “Warm, Cottage Craftsman,” “Shotgun” and “North End Bungalow,” not to mention, our beautiful Neo-Classical homes. Our historic area is a wonderful mixture of eclectic history. The value of working with someone with a real love of the area in which you live is immeasurable.

My preferred method for that type of search, especially if the buyer is "in to" historical architecture, and is looking for an authentic "Old Home," is to research your agents thoroughly. If you find an agent that specializes in historic homes and architecture and/or the cities historic district, you are much more likely to come across a real gem. There is such thing as historic value, and that agent will know, or have the means to find out the history of the homes in that historic district. An informed historic specialist will also have great information on the restriction that the areas Historical Preservation Society puts on any restoration projects, if any. They will also have an abundance of information on cool historic home websites and restoration salvage and supply sources. - Thu May 22 2008, 08:20
