Ask your friends who have had successful relations with realtors for a recommendation. I would not always go for the top producers, because they may not have the time to do devote to you. I would look for someone from the area who has been in the business for a few years and understands the market. Interview a few reatlors to see if they listen to what your needs are and are they intuitive enough to determine needs you have not expressed. You want to be able to rely on your realtor to determine if a home is a good buy or if you should bid low on a property. If you go on the interenet, most realtors have websites with information about the credentials.
This is a great time to buy a property. The market is slow between Thanksgiving and mid January, so you should be able to get a good deal. Good Luck.
