All Real Estate commissions are negotiable in California, however you may want to ask yoursel - "If the agent I choose can't negotiate on their own behalf for their full 6% fee, then how will they be able to negotiate with a future buyer on my behalf in order to get me the highest and best amount for my home?"
Make sure you are working with a full time agent. Many agents in this difficult market are working elsewhere as well as trying to hang on as agents. How will they be able to represent your interests and fulfill their fiduciary duty to you during the time they are working at their "other" job? It depends upon your purchase agreement, and whether or not you have any remaining contingencies. Did you have an inspection contingency or a loan contingency? If you have not removed those contingencies you may still back out without losing your deposit. Ask your Realtor, they will be the best resource to help you with specific questions regarding your escrow. - Tue Jun 10 2008, 15:53
