When looking for a builder, you need to consider more than just the cost per square foot. Have they worked in the area? Do the complete their work in a timely manner? You need to see and speak to people who have built with them and hear positive feedback. A builder can tell you they can build whatever you want for as inexpensively as you can afford. Say $110 a square foot...when it comes down to getting the finishes and customized choices...the price will they quoted you won't cover those things. So, in the long run, you might end up paying more money, using more time, than had you chosen a builder based on what you wanted in your end product, rather than the cheapest one you could find.
I would be happy to refer you to a few builders for you to speak with and cose for yourself. karen.zenner@cbexchange.com. - Wed Jun 25 2008, 06:15
Hi Sandra,
You will have property taxes to pay yearly and, of course, maintainance to the property. As for any non-US citizen or resident fees...you would need to consult a real estate attorney. If the Chicago area is where you are looking, I would be happy to help! - Wed Jun 25 2008, 05:43
