You'll need to file an original tax return or an amended tax return to claim the credit. If you file an amended tax return, then you should get a check for the credit without further deductions.
For 2009 purchases, you can either amend the 2008 tax return or claim the credit with your 2009 tax return.
For 2010 purchases, you can either claim the credit with your 2009 return (file an extension if necessary), or with your 2010 return.
In either case, you'll need to fill out the appropriate IRS forms and provide a copy of your escrow closing statement (HUD-1) with your request for the credit. - Wed Dec 2 2009, 09:11
