A Short Sale happens when the home owner can no longer pay his mortgage and the market value of the house is less then the amount he awes. In this case the bank allows him to advertise his home for sale, but the sale has to be approved by the bank. The bank in short sale situations is willing to take loss as long as the loss is lower then what they believe they might loose if the house goes to foreclosure.
The process might be long, but in many cases the buyer may save a lot of money. - Wed Sep 17 2008, 11:51
