Hello there, My name is Harold 'Mac' McCarthy (known to friends and clients as Mac), I have been at Cashin Company in San Mateo for over two years and during that time have been a proud member of Team Tapper. Our team is the top producing team in the Cashin San Mateo office. Being a strong believer in that strength are in the numbers, I have found that clients love working with our team. Team Tapper consists of 5 full service realtors and one marketing assistant.
Both as a team and individual I believe that there are 5 simple concepts towards providing a client with excellent service and satisfaction.
1. Dedicated Service - Which means being on time for appointments, working around your clients schedule, and ultimately making your client feel important to you.
2. Communication - I realize that communication is key during any real estate transaction; that is why all calls, emails, and texts are responded to with promptness.
3. Market knowledge - Having lived on the peninsula for over 25 years I know cities; Belmont, San Carlos, Hillsborough, Burlingame, Millbrae, San Francisco, and San Mateo, but more importantly, I know areas. For example San Mateo has Baywood, Aragon, San Mateo Park, Parkside, Laurelwood, Highlands, Fiesta Gardens, San Mateo Villiage, Shoreview, and the list goes on. For each of these areas I know the schools and where the most value sits.
4. Teamwork - In working with a team I have found that my marketing of listings is multiplied by four agents and a marketing assistant. I have also found that clients appreciate having multiple agents looking out for their best interest, while only having to deal directly with one.
5. Negotiation - At the core of every deal is negotiation and that is why my goal as an agent is to provide my clients with a win.
"Testimonial:
Working with Mac McCarthy has been a pleasure. Mac has been great to work with. He is attentive and does his best to provide exceptional service. He is straight up and does not lie like other real estate agents to seal the deal. He allows for the buyer to feel comfortable during the purchase, not a pushy agent, and seeks to find an answer if he doesn’t have one. It is hard to find someone you trust in this industry. Mac has earned my trust!"

Hey Dee,
I am not sure if there are any first floor 1 bedrooms for sale, but if I were you I'd contact Dave Tapper of Cashin Company. He is the number one agent for San Bruno in our office. He does a ton of business in San Bruno and knows the Shelter Creek complex very well. If there are none availble now he may know of one coming on. His number is 415-370-7195. - Mon Oct 6 2008, 14:34

Hi Berston,
An earthquake will effect more than just Foster City. Foster City as far as I know has never flooded, but you never know. In all reality you could buy a beautiful home in the San Carlos Hills and it could have a land slide or be effected by an earthquake. The bottom line is Foster City is an excellent place to buy because of its schools, parks, and location. If your really worried about a natural disaster then get good insurance, I believe flood insurance is actually required in Foster City. - Thu Oct 2 2008, 11:54

Hello Sophia,
The shoreview area in my view is not a bad area, but in terms of San Mateo it is at the bottom of the food chain. Like most areas there are pockets, which are better than others. Also there is North Shoreview and South Shoreview. North is closer to the Bay and runs into Coyote Point and Poplar golf course. It also has North Shoreview Elementary, which holds an API of 797. South Shoreview has Horal Elementary with an API of 712. Both have Bayside Middle School with an API of 684, but Bayside is also a magnet school for Art and Technology. In terms of High School I believe its San Mateo High School with an API of 745. Traffic is not bad and freeway access is very convenient to the 101. As far as noise goes it really depends on what part of shoreview, there are homes that back up to 101 in South Shoreview. If you are interested in San Mateo I would also consider the Parkside area, which offers a little better schools and better value. Please feel free to call me for any further information, I know the area very well. 650-245-1005 - Thu Oct 2 2008, 11:39

San Carlos has better weather (less windy, warmer), more character, an attractive downtown, a train station, and a larger variety of homes.
Foster City has better parks, more modern homes, has multiple locations on the lagoon, has more townhouses and apartments than homes, and has a very clean feel.
Both have great schools.
In terms of having an 850k cap you will have better luck with townhouses in Foster City, because homes there are usually ad least 3 bed 2 bath and rarely dip below 900k. As for San Carlos you may be able to find something that is 2 bed 2 bath under 850k, but it probably would need work or be on a busy street. Also San Carlos has an east side which is small and more industrial, but would offer more in your price range.
Now that you have narrowed down the cities you like, try to find out which areas with in the city you like most. Then see if they fit your price range. For more info or other areas that may fit your interest please email or call me 650-245-1005. - Fri Sep 19 2008, 16:13

The Beresford Neighborhood is wonderful area. It has great schools and is great area to raise a family.
School Name API Scores
Meadow Heights Elementary 769
Beresford Elementary 792
Laurel Elementary 832
Abbott Middle 768
Borel Middle 807
Hillsdale High 774
Aragon High 900 800
These are schools in the beresford area. You need an address to find out which school is in your area.
In regards to the 92, it has pockets where traffic backs up (like before the W. Hillsdale exit), but overall it depends on where your going. The 92 generally leads you to 280 or 101. The 280 flows more steadily than 101. Please feel free to contact me for more information. - Fri Sep 19 2008, 15:48
I know all of peninsula very well, but San Mateo is where I grew up and still live. Throughout my time on the peninsula I have lived in the Baywood area and currently live in the Parkside area of San Mateo. I have also lived in the West Portal and Parkside area's of San Francisco. These particular areas are where I offer the most inside knowledge. In saying that, I am very confident in representing other regions of the peninsula, because my team's marketing plan stands alone and in the case of buyers I always make sure that we are getting the best possible value.
