Yes you can. You should also get a pet deposit besides the security deposit. If you need help with a rental, I suggest you call Fay the rental queen. She specializes in rentals and screens them, runs their credit, and more importantly does a check list walk thru that is very impressive. http://www.Faytherentalqueen or Femarie@aol.com.

Your score shouldn't go down more than 10 points for running your credit. Before doing so, make sure to interview the banks you are considering. Do not let anyone run your credit until you decide who to work with, ortherwise you will have more than one inquiry.

Going to B of A or Wells Fargo is very smart for two reasons. One, you will know that these lenders will still be in business thru out your buying process. Two, the seller and their agents will know you have the ability to close escrow as well, and could be a reason they choose your offer over another.

The banks will never deal with you directly, period. If the home wasn't sold on the court house steps, it will go into the lenders inventory, then they will assign it to an agent who is on their list.

If I were you, I would drive by at night during the week and also on the weekend and see for yourself. Then ask yourself if you were alone, would you feel safe.

You might also think about your friends and relatives because they might be thinking the same thing if you purchase something there.

I know from being a native San Franciscan that 6th ST. between Market and Mission is one of the worst areas in the city.

The city has tried to clean up the area, but there are still same bad people who hang around that area. I wouldn't let me wife or sister walk around there, that's for sure.
