There is an old hunter's cottage built in 1932.

Great to hear of someone looking for an older house! A farmhouse - all the better!
I grew up in Woodside/Portola and know the area well - there are not too many older properties that haven't already been redone...
I try to keep a handle on horse properties in the area and sometimes come across something that might work - can't say I remember a "farm" house except for out on the coast for quite some time.

Rob -There would be a significant difference as you indicate from person to person... but there would be a wide range on the upside - a view is valuable - being next to open space is too - but then again it might not be be for someone else.... somewhat vision impaired maybe, it all depends on if you are buying it or selling... how you present it and how it is received..
It could be worth a million dollars and it could be worthless.
What would it be for you is the question?
Get comps. Use a good objective person to help you avoid overlooking the obvious,
My advice - if you are seeking - use a strong negotiator when you make a move and come at it from that side of the table... it is worthless or it is worth a million bucks.

What a nice goal to have a house on the ocean in San Mateo!
You might be better off finding a property with something on it already - building out on the ocean will be difficult at best. Be prepared for hoop jumping. It will be a long project if it doesn't already have a permitted structure to work with - it could be long even then.
I've been out here a long time and would be happy to discuss your interest in coastal real estate.

Horse property is an area of expertise.
It's always a better home if there's a barn!
From my experience with horses I can see the possibilities and share my knowledge to make it a workable horse property or not.
Land stewardship is also important to me - I go as green as I can.
So solar energy and living off the grid excite me and I am getting more and more familiar with that. I see these things as opportunities not problems.
This is an ideal area to be using more solar energy, more wind power. I hope to influence greater use of alternative energies and the use of best green building practices on all the properties I touch.
I tour with a low carbon footprint - you can too. If you like, I can show you some ways to do that.
