Pam:
Good question!
I don't know the size of your bathroom, but agree with prior respondents that both a shower and tub would be preferable. If the room can't quite accommodate both, you may want to consider one of the smaller corner tubs in addition to the shower. I have seen this done in some remodels.
Good luck with your project--and I hope you get many years of enjoyment from your new bathroom! - Earlier today

Your basement question caught my attention! I used to live in both Columbus and Dayton--and was surprised to find so few basements in Southern California. Most belongings that are typically stored in basements will likely end up in your garage.
Western Vista has some lovely neighborhoods--and you may find the Shadowridge area (92081) to be one of interest. It has good local schools, a golf course, country club and many tree-lined streets. The job commute for your husband would be close from here as well.
Just south, you'll find Carlsbad--which is also worth exploring.
Your budget should easily accommodate what you are seeking--and you will likely find food and utility costs to be less than what you have been paying in Ohio. Please feel free to email or call if you have any other questions I may be able to answer--and best wishes in your relocation! - Earlier today
Are you seeking to rent a property--or do you need property management? There seems to be some confusion about your question. - Thu Jul 10 2008, 20:58
In Carlsbad, the only possible disadvantage of living next to an ocean lagoon might be freeway noise. Homes around the Agua Hedionda and Batiquitos Lagoons have lovely settings and varying degrees of traffic noise.
Otherwise, the settings are lovely and the views can be breathtaking! - Thu Jul 10 2008, 20:25
I would like to answer my own question a year after asking it:-)
We are starting to see a resurgence of second home buyers in North Coastal San Diego County. Many anticipate retirement here, and feel that the best timing for good buys might be now--rather than later. These buyers tend to be affluent and have a history of making good financial decisions.
