Using a buyers agent like me who specializes in 'deals, " especially in the city, is a good start :)

Hello,
The best advice I can give you is to simply knock on neighbors' doors and ask them. The best sources are the ones that have lived there for years, and know the history of every house on the block.

Also, look up the neighborhood site via the St. Louis city web site and attend a neighborhood organization meeting and/or call the organizers.

www.bestplaces.net is also a great site for statistics, but nothing beats talking to the neighbors. I try to accumulate a list of willing-to-talk neighbors in various neighborhoods for my clients.
