1. Ask your agent if they would invest there as their home.
2. If you don't have an agent, please find one.

Every market is unique, and there's no way someone who relocates can find the best answers to their questions about why or why not a particular neighborhood. This area of Wake County has almost completely built out - they're abutting Durham County now. That contains good news and bad news - the bad news is reflected in the answers about school systems. So, it depends on whether you have schoolchildren or not. - Sun Aug 31 2008, 09:35

In Raleigh (Wake County Public Schools) we do have excellent schools - #3 for our size nationally the last time I saw ratings. Here's a great link to the official scores and info for every public shool in Wake County.

WIth the school question out of the way, you really can find the type of home you seek all over Wake County, not just Raleigh. The next question would be what location (job, downtown, etc) you are looking for? Also, coming from Chicago, what is "newer" to you? I've helped clients from large cities for whom something built in a transitional style since 1990 is newer. Of course, it might vey well be since 2005 - but you'll have choices either way! - Sun Aug 31 2008, 09:08

if you have time to supply the following info, it would help narrow this down dramatically for you...

1. "20 minutes to Raleigh" means to downtown Raleigh, or where specifically (an area or intersection if you can't be specific)?
2. Do you want a newer home (say 2004 or newer), a mid-range home (say 1990-2003), an older home (1970-1990) or an OLD home?
3. What other characteristics in a home can you share - size of lot, garage needs, general square footage parameters, etc.

While it is pretty easy to get around Raleigh, there's no way you can make the best use of your time even in just a "20 minute radius of Raleigh" unless we know better "where" and "what" to help steer you in the right direction. - Mon Aug 18 2008, 07:30

Linda - it will be difficult at best to find this, simply because rentals in the area(s) you mention are generally $850+. You can feel free to email me at bobromhal@ysuhomes.com - Mon Aug 18 2008, 07:21
