Eric Andrews answered:
In my opinion it is worth it to have a basement. The additional square footage will appraise for less than the above grade square footage, but it is a very economical way of getting additonal living space. Block construction basements used to have trouble leaking due to the impermeable clay soils in the area. New pre-formed or poured basment systems are not having problems with leakage. Finding a lot with the proper grade and having a walk-out basement with multiple windows is a desireable space for entertaining or a play area for the kids. - Wed May 21 2008, 08:55
