Hi Kitt,
The home buying process and transaction is a complex one and it is a good idea to have legal council. An attorney can explain to you the legal jargon and paper work; you hire an attorney to protect your interest. There are some areas of NJ that you don’t need an Attorney to represent you at closing but is really your choice. In North Jersey an attorney is required to close, and disburse on escrow on a Real Property transfer of title. I hope this answers your question or gives you a head start on your research.
