All the answers you have received are great. But remember what you buy will probably be AS IS and the bank is not obligated to mention any problems. How many $$$$$ do you have for repairs and what can you do. Check to see how long the utilities have been shut off. - Fri Jul 4 2008, 18:00
Normally I would say never go through an attorney ( at least in Ohio). However, it sounds like you are trying to get out of a contract with a seller and realtor involved. Before getting an attorney talk with the realtor and if you need an attorney get one. - Fri Jul 4 2008, 17:47
San Diego Faye gave you the correct answer. All realtors should do a cma for a prospective client and you should not feel obligated to use any of them, however if you need a realtor don't hesitate. By the way I am not a realtor. Question-- we don't have trustees in Ohio so what are they suppose to do? - Fri Jul 4 2008, 17:37
IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE OVERLY CONCERNED ABOUT RADON. HAVE YOU EVER KNOWN ANYONE THAT WAS HARMED BY IT. YOU WANT TO USE THE BASEMENT AS BEDROOMS ? I WOULD BE A LOT MORE CONCERNED ABOUT HAVING AN EMERGENCY EXIT PUT IN. SMOKE AND FIRE MAY KEEP YOU FROM GETTING OUT OF THE LOWER LEVEL. I HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN HOMES WITH BASEMENTS WITH SOME RADON BUT I THINK IT IS TOTALLY NOT A MAJOR CONCERN. - Fri Jul 4 2008, 10:35
Are you interested in buying or selling ? If you are selling I would suggest having an appraisal done as it help you on what to expect for a list price and a prospective buyer on what he is getting. If you are wanting to buy, as stated before you can get the tax value from the county but that in no way indicates a real value. The seller may be willing to pay for an appraisal if he knows your interested. - Fri Jul 4 2008, 10:06
