Hi DR
I was the realtor who represented the seller in Howe Street listing this past summer in July (if this IS actually the property to which you are referring?) And yes it was originally a SFR, switched to a duplex in the 60's, legally. The process to reverse is doable. My client is currently renting both units but when she returns to the States next summer. we will be re-marketing the property. If you have ANY interest, please be in touch.

There are many many condos around the lake! One thing you could do is to get on my email listing notifier service....it is free and you plug in the areas you want to watch, indicate if you want to follow condos, SFR's, income properties, add your price range, add the number of bedrooms and baths you need .... and when a property comes on the market that fits your criteria, you get an email that describes the property in detail. Follow the home prices via email.
I advise all of my clients to use the service to stay in touch with what is going on in the area. Don't be in the dark. It's a really good thing to do...

There are wonderful communities in Oakland ... but the missing variable is ... what is your price range? or are you planning to rent? I live in Crocker Highland (my children grew up here ) it is very near Lake Merritt and wonderful. Montclair and Glenview also really nice and very family oriented. The public schools in the Oakland Hills are very highly rated (Thornhill, Crocker Highlands, Redwood Heights ... to name just a few.) You should get on my email listing service (I'm a realtor in Montclair) .. and watch the areas you might prefer to live in, seeing the house prices as the hit the MLS...a great way to watch the market via email ... plus it's free!

Hi City Girl...
#1 Vallejo is not that far from Walnut Creek, If you are going to spend 7 to 8 K I would buy where you want to live. And Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, are lovely...they ARE more like towns. But if you live in WC or PH, the commute to Vallejo is the counter commute direction. Everyone else is going the other way. Plus, jobs change. Live where you have peace. Driving directions to Walnut Creek, CA
20.6 mi – about 27 mins
Vallejo, CA
#2 What can 700 - 800 buy? Depends. I would first find the school you want your child to go to and then try move into that district. Ask Trulia parents to respond to the great school choices and see what comes up. Your wonderful school communities will be your source of fun (for you ... and your child)
#3 If you want help, I am a Sotheby's Realtor and would be happy to assist you in your search.
