How much more is property taxes for Canadians buying in Florida than for Florida residents owning a similar?

Mike - property taxes are not more for foreign nationals - the difference in Florida is that you cannot Homestead a property if you are not a resident residing in that home.
Florida residents who hold title to a home in Florida and use the home as their permanent residence may establish their residence as a homestead which entitles the homeowner to a $50,000 homestead tax exemption from the assessed value of the home for city, county, and school taxes. When you have your home "homesteaded", the Save-your-home act limits the assessed value increase to 3% per year.

Peter, unfortunately you will not be able to avoid that legally. Our advice is to contact an accountant and see if there is any other creative methods of limiting your tax liability with your current income structure. - Sat Dec 6 2008, 20:20

Veronica,
I live, play and work in Miami Shores and it is my main Real Estate Market Area. (as well as have kids myself)
There are a number of Pre-Schools available:
Miami Shores Presbyterian Pre-school
Montessori
Baptist Church pre-school
Community Church pre-school

As for elementary schools, The Miami Shores Elementary School is an A-rated school with an Academic Excellence Program - but you also have several private schools. St. Rose of Lima, Cushman and Miami Country Day.
