Dear Domenico:
You maybe able too, but you have to check with the bi-laws. That is your ultimate answer for your question. Most co ops are realistic and now that you may want to paint etc... But I don't think plumbing or major work would be able to be done by you. Remember that you are buying shares to the co op. You will have much more freedom owning a condo or single family home.
Call the managing company and ask if they have the bi laws on line.
