You can request an apprasial, but the builder probably will not be willing to pay for it. Do you have your own agent to represent you in this purchase or are you using the builders on site agents? It's always a good idea to bring along your agent with you, because they are the ones looking out for your best interest. Your agent should be able to do a market analysis for you to show you what the homes in the area have sold for. If you have any further questions feel free to give me a call or email me.
