You have already received some very valuable answers. The key to any successful Real Estate businees is how much YOU put into it. If you are sitting at home and waiting for the phone to ring or for someone to knock on your door and ask for you to sell their home, you won't make much at all. If you make anything. But the more you "network"--to use a term already used-- and the more people know you are willing and able the better you will do. The first year will be tough, especially in this market. However if you have the drive and the flexibilty to learn what you need to learn, you will go far. Don't let anyone pass you by that doesn't know that you are in the business. Where your nametage everywhere. Pass out you card. Smile and don't be afraid to ask questions. Ask questioons from someone who's been in the business and ask people around you "Do you know anyone looking to buy or sell their home?"
