About Me

Why I became a Realtor?

At first, it was to expand my comfort zone and to earn extra money. I wanted to test myself, to put myself “out there” and force myself to perform. I rose to the challenge and experienced not just the thrill of success but also the humility of setbacks in a challenging market. One of the biggest gifts of this career has been the understanding I’ve gained of human nature – especially my own. Today my goal is to become a better person by helping others to accomplish what is important to them.

My purpose is to help people make Good Decisions so they can get what they want.

Why I chose Long & Foster?

Top market share.
Broker integrity and reputation.
Superior staff, support, leadership and management.

L&F is a true one-stop shop for all real estate services, so whatever services a client requires, I have access.

What can folks expect from me?

I don't give my services away and I'm selective about whom I represent. I’m selective because I’ve learned that there are some folks that I just can’t help. I want to get results for my clients sooner rather than later and this requires trust, teamwork and commitment from all parties. Spending time with the wrong client [or agent] doesn’t do either party any good.

Buyers and Sellers who hire me and follow my counsel and advice do get what they want. A recent seller client got three offers on his home – in this market! He had the luxury of selecting the offer that best met his needs. A recent buyer client bought his dream home for way below the asking price and the seller even paid his closing costs.

As part of my standard way of doing business, folks can expect the following from me:

1) I’m not going to charm or pressure my way into representing someone.
2) I’m going to first understand a person’s needs and then decide if and how I can help them.
3) I’m going to educate my clients on every aspect of the buying or selling process and keep them informed and comfortable every step of the way.
4) I don’t discuss listing price on my first visit with a seller (ask me why and I’ll explain).
5) I’m going to tell folks honestly what they need to do to buy or sell.
6) I’m going to aggressively represent the best interests of my clients.
7) I'd rather upset people with the truth than mislead them with a lie.

Testimonials
"Jeff Ginny and I wish to thank you for all your efforts in making our home selling process go smoothly. Your professionalism and attention to detail made the sale come off without a hitch. As Ginny and I were both Realtors as one time we know the effort that must be put in to find the right price and preparing the property prior to listing. I was especially pleased with your suggestions in getting the house ready to be placed on the market. All those little things like touch up painting and minor repairs made the house show very well. Once the house was ready for market, the efforts of Linda in preparing the home video for the listing were exceptional. I am sure that went a long way in getting other agents and prospective buyers interested in looking at the house. One thing that I was impressed with was you knowledge of the current home buyers/ sellers market and how you kept us updated. With the resale market being very slow it was only through your dedicated efforts that we were able to find a buyer and close the deal in such a short time. Rest assured that if we find I necessary to move again we will be calling on you to be our agent. You may use us as a very satisfied customer reference. -- Jim & Ginny Lamers"

"Dear Jeff, I am taking a few minutes… to thank you for selling my house in Frederick. I wouldn’t be here if you hadn’t been there to make it possible. I was selling my house during the most serious downturn in the housing industry in 40 years so it was no small feat. One of your qualities that put me in front of the competition was your eye for clutter. You identified furniture that over-crowded rooms and clothing that over-flowed closets. Cleaning out the garage and painting its floor made it look almost new. I would never have thought of these things, nor painting the floor in the utility room – which gave it a finished appearance. The pictures you took of the house showed it to advantage, and the open houses helped bring the customers – including the new owner. But I particularly wanted to thank you for the personal touch you brought to the task. I cannot thank you enough for providing your truck and your labor to help bring stuff to the dump or carry excess furniture and clothing to the storage facility. That good deed alone took hours of your time. But you also assumed the costs for the L&F administrative fee, as well as provided me with the home owner warranty paid out of your anticipated commission. That’s what I call confidence as well as generosity. The constant flow of information on the feedback you received from other agents who showed the house allowed me to refine the presentation as we went along. Keeping me updated on the numbers of similar homes on the market and the range of asking prices helped me price mine to sell. Also, your encouraging words during the whole process when it seemed as if every news story painted a bleak outlook for real estate helped keep me focused on practical ways to make the place attractive. I hope this market turns around soon. Regardless of how fast homes are selling generally, I know that your clients will sell theirs. For that reason, use me as a reference when you talk to people who are considering listing with you. Best wishes for the holiday and the year ahead!"

Location...Location...Location. Railroad tracks?

Jeff Hall answered:
Hi Jim,

The best time to think about selling your home is when you're buying it! A buyer can usually get a better price on properties which has issues and as long as they can live with them it is okay. However, when it comes time to sell the property they must realize that they will also get less for it and it will probably take longer to sell. As long as the buyer is aware of this and they are okay with that, then great.

Some buyer issues with Railroad tracks are noise, vibration [if close enough] and safety if children and/or pets are involved. BTW, external defects such as these are known in the business as "incurables" because there is nothing the owner can do to fix them. - Thu Jul 17 2008, 09:10

Most of the IT jobs are going to be in Rockville, Bethesda, Silver Spring or to a lesser degree Gaithersburg. Check out Dice.com [or other job sites] to see what's available. Given these work cities, you can find something very nice for that range in Gaithersburg, Germantown or maybe a little further out along the I-270 corridor for a nice SFH.
