Hi Ileen,
The city of Chicago's own website has lots of information about neighborhoods, home buying, and more: - Tue Dec 4 2007, 14:52

Hi Heather,
What's important to you? There is the time-value of money to be considered. For instance, if you are currently renting, how much would you be spending on rent (with no return on it) until you purchase? Would it be worth more in the long-term to purchase now, save money on rent, and watch your investment increase in equity?

Many sellers right now are quite willing to negotiate and are happy to get a contract. If you find a place you like in your price range, you should make an offer and negotiate for the best deal. Waiting might only mean dealing with a more aggressive market, and sellers who are less likely to negotiate. - Wed Aug 15 2007, 12:06

Is chicago nice place to move in?

Bridget Kies answered:
Hi Baybird, are you thinking of moving to Chicago? I've lived around the world, but Chicago continues to feel like home to me. So much so that I became a real estate agent to watch other people settle in here. The city maintains a great site, www.cityofchicago.org, which has plenty of helpful information. - Wed Jun 27 2007, 12:17

is buying a condo in chicago a bad choice?

Bridget Kies answered:
Maddie, your friend is talking quite generally. What is she basing her information on? The best time to buy - for you - is when you are financially and emotionally ready to buy. Whether you buy a condo or townhome is a question of price and personal taste. If you are ready to start looking, I encourage you to talk to a mortgage broker to find out your price range and then take a look at what's available. If you want some additional help, please email me. I can send you a first-time buyer planning kit. - Wed Jun 27 2007, 12:11
