Hi Demetria,
It's great to hear your moving forward to buying your home. The first thing I would do is have a credit check down on yourself. It's free if you go to http://www.annualcreditreport.com. Second I would close all open accounts (on your credit score) that you do not use anymore. Then I would cancel and close (you must do both) all credit cards except for one. Do everything you can not to be late on payments. This includes utilities. Open a checking account if you do not have one.
This is a start but a good one.
