Nia,
There's really no definitive for you because there are so many options out there you'd have to look at it on a case-by-case basis. It's very possible that you'll be able to find an existing home in good condition with a great pool for far less than what you'd pay for that exact home with that exact pool + landscaping if purchased separately. But, with so many bank-owned homes on the market (or if you have the 3 - 6 month time period and stomach for short sales to close) and motivated sellers - you may be able to find a home with a fantastic pool at a fantastic price.
Moreover, everyone's idea of a pool is different. Do you want a basic pool or one that creates a backyard oasis with a waterfall, built-in hot tub, lavish landscaping, etc? In a traditional market you'll likely find a home with a pool for cheaper than what you'd find an existing home and then add a pool after you close escrow. But, in this market with it's plethora of options and possibilities ... it really comes down to a case-by-case basis based on the properties you are looking at. - Tue Sep 30 2008, 11:09
