Floyd,
If you're thinking of buying a home in the mountains, and haven't explored Cashiers, you may want to do so. Cashiers was once considered a very high end area, but with the recent downturn, our prices are lower and our product is superior. How about 1,800 square feet, one level, new construction, 3 beds, 2 baths, in a community with underground utilities, paved roads, golf, tennis, gym, indoor pool, private lakes, trout streams and more for $239,900! You won't find that anywhere else in the mountains.
Our market continues to soften, but is certainly at or very near the bottom. 2010 stats for residential properties in the Highlands Cashiers MLS look like this for year a year to date comparison of last year: number of homes sold up by a half of a percent, gross dollar volume down 17.7%, average sales price down 17.3%, median sales price down 25%.
It's a great time to buy!
