They might have advertised the homes based on their base prices. Once you add the lot premium, elevation, and some fancy upgrade, the final sale price could be easily $20K more.

We did it ourselves 16 years ago. My husband did all the molding, arch doorway, cabinets, and the rest of woodwork. We did save about 20-30K back then. You do need a licensed general contractor/builder to supervise the whole process. The toughest part is to line up all the sub-contractors so they don't delay your building process. Find a small builder who has his OWN team of sub-contractors. If you need any recommendation, please send me an email.

Hello Andew,

People here refer RDU as an airport. RTP would be referred as an area which covers all the cities around RDU, including Durham, Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Cary, Morrisville, and Apex. There is a big RBC Financial group (RBC bank) in Raleigh and also a few investment firms, like TD AmeriTrade and Fidelity (recently moved down here from MA), Most major bank headquarters are located in Winston-Salem or Charlotte area.

It is not hard to find a home at your price range. It all depends where/which city you are going to live. Here are a few communities by each city -
Cary - Preston, Preston Village, Highcroft, Weycroft, Cary Park, Weldon Ridge, Amberly, Carpenter Village, Cameron Pond, and many more
Morrisville - Part of Preston, Providence Place
Raleigh - Brier Creek, Bedford at Falls River ...
Chapel Hill - Governor's club, Southern Village, Chancellor Ridge, Chesley, Lake Hogan Farms, Legend Oaks ...
Durham - New Hope Valley, Grandale, Brightleaf, Southpoint Manor, Hills at Southpoint ...
