Many times the homeowner doesn't know the age of the home, and there may have been revovations done in 1955 which led to the confusion, or the other homes in the neighborhood were constructed around then and the assumption was made that this one was too.
The home inspector knows how homes were built during that time and that is where it was picked up the older age. You probably have 2" x 8" support beams instead of 2" x 6", and tongue and groove sheeting on the roof instead of plywood. Your taxes might also be cheaper than a home built 30 years later, because quite often municipalities take the age of the home into consideration when assessing the home.
If the home has been well maintained, and it probably was if you didn't realize the age, it would seem you scored a bit of luck.
