Dear Phil,
You seem to be getting a lot of good advice here so I hope you don't mind me throwing my two cents in too!!!
At a budget from $350-$600 (Cash vs mortgage) I would definitely only recommend an oceanfront building or a building with terrific views of the ocean. After all it is all about location location location. I would also suggest you narrow down your search to Sunny Isles Beach or Aventura area (they are 15-20 mins from local airports, South beach, Fort Lauderdale etc). Sunny Isles Beach is an oceanfront community so to get a decent 2/2 you will be paying in the higher half of your budget. Aventura is just across the bridge and offers amazing views of the ocean and the world famous Turnberry Golf Course.
