Hello Brian,
Sounds like you had a bad experience in making this offer. I am a licensed Realtor in Texas so I can only speak about Texas real estate law but I would think that in regards to this question, the rules would be similar.

The answer to this question is really based on "What contracts did your Agent have you sign?" There is a contract called a BUYERS REPRESENTATION AGREEMENT that your Agent should have had you sign (I would have had you sign it if I was help you to find a home). The Buyers rep agreement is a contract that "legally" binds you to that agent in the purchase of your next home for the AREA and TIME framed stated.

Check the copies you have of the paperwork you signed and look specifically for this agreement.

For me personally, even if I have a buyers rep agreement with a client and they decide I am not the agent for them, I release them from the agreement (unless we are under contract in the purchase of a home).
It is no fun to be married to someone you do not like!

Hope this helped...Good Luck - Wed Jun 10 2009, 05:29
