I think Shel-lee hit the nail on the head. I would reinforce that the Passport is a great area transportation tool that we forget. But I don't think you can beat the shore. I'd also give some thought to the Plaza area. It's not a 'walk friendly' as the Shore but it's a great family neighborhood.
Let us know if you need more help. Shel-lee is right those of us that live in the neighborhood aboslutely love it and can't say enough.
