Can anyone explain a waiver of redhibition as it pertains to buying a home in Louisiana?

The waiver of redhibition is a clause inserted in the sale documents and does not become effective until the act of sale. It basically states that the buyer has had the opportunity to inspect the property to their satisfaction and agrees to purchase it in its "as is" condition and release the seller from liability for future defects. This does NOT mean that the seller can hide or neglect to disclose any known defects (this would be fraud). - Tue Mar 31 2009, 17:26

I am looking at buying a home in the Gretna/New Orleans area. How are the insurance premiums in the area?

I'll have to disagree with Ian. The purchase price DOES affect the premiums. His link to Alpha Insurance is a great one and when you review the quotes, you'll see that they are broken out by type of construction and price range. A new home owner in the area will be placed with LA Citizens for home owner's insurance, no matter what company you purchase your coverage through, unless you currently own a home with a company that will allow you to transfer your policy to the area or you are military. - Thu Jan 31 2008, 06:21
