In my opinion buyers and sellers who are actually looking for "something" when they choose a Realtor, look for someone who is responsive and knowledgeable. In other words, answers their calls and acts in a competent manner, although until they've worked with both a competent and an incompetent agent I don't think they'll know the difference. I once worked with a buyer client who had previously spent a month trying to negotiate a deal thru another agent who told me that in the first half hour interview we had I asked him more questions than the other agent had in a month. They had not even signed a disclosure with this agent (who was, by the way, the listing agent for the property). I think a very small percentage of the public knows what any of the designations means. As for sellers, in this market what most are looking for, in my experience, is an agent who thinks their house is worth as much as they do. - Sun Feb 8 2009, 05:03
