I was moving my young family to New Bern for a job that I hope will last for the rest of my working life. Our home is likely to be our main investment in life. My profession is a labor of love and privilege and not one of financial gain. Thus, how and what home we live in is important to my providing for the long-term financial stability of my family. My wife and I were also first time homebuyers. The little experience I had in construction made me skeptical of the whole profession of real estate agents and brokers. I went into the relationship requiring that one must prove themselves to be honest. I checked with the few new reliable friends that I had made in the area about Hank Outlaw. These individuals had spent time around Hank and all considered him to be an honest man. That is what I needed for my family. Hank proved himself to be honest through our relationship. Through a misunderstanding on my part I made offer on a home without using Hank’s help. The deal fortunately did not work out but I felt that I needed to compensate Hank’s many hours of looking for homes for us and with us. I offered him what I could. Well, when that home did not match the terms of our contract I opted out only to look for houses again. I went back to Hank who promised me that if he were able to help me buy a house he would refund the money that I had paid him earlier. Well, when Hank did find the exact type of house in our desired neighborhood in and under our desired price he did fulfill his promise and gave back the money that I paid him for his prior services. Hank Outlaw proved his character through being an honest man with his promises and with his checkbook. But Hank Outlaw also proved himself to possess vital knowledge of the area. The nature of my job makes my home and its location important for my work. We wanted and needed to have people in our home regularly. Additionally we wanted to be around people in the community to get to know our new city. Yet, we were moving from a completely different region. My wife and I knew nothing of New Bern. We did not know the nature of the various neighborhoods and communities that make up New Bern. We needed some one who had an excellent working knowledge of the community. Hank found out the nature of my job and the desires I had to use my home in my profession. Since Hank grew up in New Bern and has been working in the general field of home building and selling for much of his professional life he was able to tell us vital information about the areas we were interested in and the houses that were there. Hank had even lived in some of the neighborhoods that we were interested in. Throughout our dealings with Hank in shopping for our first home Hank Outlaw proved to have excellent local knowledge of the area.But I needed someone who not only had knowledge but who would use that knowledge in hard work for me. Hank did that. We did not shop for just a few weeks. We ended up shopping for months. Hank spent hours with us driving around the greater New Bern area. Hank kept us updated on the houses that went on the market. Hank did the work of placing one bid for us and talking with the seller’s agent that did not go through. He dealt painstakingly with first homebuyers who were conservative and who were shocked that houses can cost so much. As it turned out, Hank worked hard for us until the he found the exact style of home we wanted in the neighborhood we desired. He found it and called us right away so that we could be the first to put in our offer. Our offer was accepted only to be followed by a number of other backup offers from other buyers. Another buyer even offered to buy our bid from us. This was due to Hank’s hard work. Hank Outlaw proved himself to be an agent who worked hard for this client to the last hour. He even offered some last minute advice about lenders, which lowered our closing costs considerably.
