For most communties, if you break out the town, county and school taxes, you will find that it is the school taxes that have doubled and tripled in recent years. The school boards are cowering to the teacher unions and have been for years. The pensions, health, and salaries have literally bled the homeowners dry, and in many cases the schools themselves are putting out substandard results. We need good schools, but when we are spending 12,000 to 16,000 per child per year, there is something wrong with the whole system. And to add insult to injury, many of these students graduate without the basic requirements of math, understanding geography and our world, balancing a checkbook, or writing a correct english grammer paper.
The Realtors are on the front lines of the war with our town politicians, we constantly tell them that our taxes are prohibiting people from buying and staying in their communities.... but honestly our voices are not enough, they think we are just complaining because we're not doing "enough business". We need a tax revolt from every corner of Westchester and from every homeowner who can't afford to buy anything because it takes two salaries just to pay the mortgage and taxes.
So someone tell me when and where to revolt, and I will be there too!!!! - Fri Oct 10 2008, 09:12
